Question 1 (a) A digital source generates 5 symbols. Two symbols have probability of occurrence as 0.25 and 0.15 and the remaining 3 symbols have equal probability of occurrences. Use the above information to obtain the source entropy. (3 marks) (b) A linear time-invariant (LTI) system consists of 2 LTI systems that are connected in cascade. Their impulse responses are Sa(10nt) and Sa(20nt). The input signal to above system has an autocorrelation of 58(T). Examine the above system and answer the following. (i) Determine the power transfer function. (6 marks) (11) Derive the output power spectral density and sketch the same. (4 marks) (c) A communication channel with 5 MHz bandwidth supports a data rate of C at a certain SNR. When the SNR is increased by 2 units, the data rate is doubled. Analyse the above system and obtain the new SNR (in dB scale) and the new data rate. (12 marks)
